Recently read this on Instagram. It is a quote by an Italian writer who uses the pseudonym ‘Elena Ferrante’ . How alluring does it sound- a pseudonym! It’s from her book ‘Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay’ . I was introduced to this writer by the Hindustan Times Brunch columnist Seema Goswami. She is a big fan of her Neapolitan novel series.
But let’s get to the context . I do agree with this quote, however Feminazi it may sound .
I don’t find it an issue to care for home and children (I am a homemaker for last 5 years and a mother for last 7 months ) but my objection is when society makes it a natural inclination and job for women to care for both and doesn’t give women a choice to opt out of it , if it suffocates them , which it does to a lot of women .
I have a problem with the waste of intellect and the casualness in which society considers being a homemaker – a women’s only job .
A home belongs to the couple and one’s ‘will’ should decide division of labour .
Phew !! Rant over !
AWESOME 👌
