Summer Cooler : Spiced Buttermilk

Masala chhachh or Spiced Buttermilk- South Indian style is the ultimate way to soothe yourself in the scorching Indian summer.

An easy , quick recipe to cool your nerves.

Ingredients 

In a blending jar

  • Yogurt/ dahi : 1 cup
  • Water : 3 cups
  • Chopped green chilli : 1
  • Chopped ginger : 1 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander : 2 tbsp
  • Chopped curry leaves : 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida/hing : a pinch
  • Salt to taste 
  • Lemon juice (optional)

For tempering

  • Oil : 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida/hing : a pinch
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves : 2 leaves



Method

  1. Whisk the yogurt with other  ingredients listed in  ‘In a blender’ category .
  2. For tempering: Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds , asafoetida, cumin seeds and curry leaves . Cook till curry leaves splatter.
  3. Add temper to whisked yogurt mixture.
  4. Chill in refrigerator.
  5. Serve chilled.
