Lemon Chicken : North Indian Style

So what do you make when you feel like having a feast but cannot because you are on a 1200 kCal diet plan ?

This Lemon Chicken is the way I binge without upsetting my fitness routine. This recipe originally belongs to my sister-in-law , so she deserves all the praise for it.

It’s a super easy recipe (You know I am a lazy cook).

Prep and Cooking time is 20 minutes combined. (Amazing na!)

And Zero Oil added ! ( Can you imagine ? )

So here we go with the recipe .

Ingredients: (serves 3)

Quick Marinade

  1. Chicken leg (with bone) : 9 pieces (almost 700 gm)
  2. Ginger (finely grated/ paste) : 1 tbsp
  3. Garlic (finely grated/paste) : 1 tbsp
  4. Curd : 1 cup
  5. Lemon Juice : freshly squeezed 3 medium sized lemons
  6. Orange Juice : fresh juice of 1 orange
  7. Salt : to taste
  8. Red Chilli powder : 1 tbsp
  9. Turmeric : 1 tsp
  10. Black Pepper Powder : 1 tbsp

    1. In the Pressure Cooker

      1. Black Cardamom (Badi elaichi) : 1 in number
      2. Cloves : 3-4 in number
      3. Black pepper corns : 1 tbsp
      4. Garam masala : 1 tbsp
      5. Ginger (finely grated/ paste) : 1 tbsp
      6. Garlic (finely grated/paste) : 1 tbsp
      7. Green chillies : 2 (slit length wise)

      1. For Pickled Onions

        1. Onion : 2  (sliced in circular rings)
        2. vinegar : enough to soak onions
        3. salt : 1tsp

        Method:

        1. Rinse and clean the chicken peices thoroughly.Pat dry. Make 2-3 slits per piece.
        2. In a large bowl , combine curd and other ingredients mentioned in the quick marinade list along with the chicken.
        3. Massage the chicken well.
        4. Its a quick marinade , 10 minutes of marination time is enough. If you plan to keep it longer , then cover and refrigerate.
        5. Keep aside the onion rings dipped in vinegar and salt.
        6. In the pressure cooker add marinated chicken, black cardamom, black peppercorns, cloves, garam masala , ginger, garlic and green chillies.
        7. Pressure cook for 8-10 minutes or till 1 whistle.
        8. Strain the excess vinegar from the onions. Once the pressure releases, add the pickled onions and stir.
        9. Serve hot.

I prefer to have the chicken alone for dinner to avoid carbs, but you can have it with rice or roti also.

        Happy eating.
