Following up with my previous post, where I suggested toys for babies 0 to 6 months, here is the second post in the series.
Toys are essential in a child’s development. They spark imagination, help the child to practice and develop their fine and gross motor skills besides providing fun and play.
The first rule that I follow while interacting with my twins is that I do not underestimate their understanding capacity. Do not limit them just because you think they would not comprehend as they are young. Experiment and explore various playthings with them and they will amaze you each day with newly developed skills.
The three main ways I entertain my kids are :
- Toys
- Music
- Books : Read Here , the five classic books to Read Aloud to your baby .

9 to 12 months
From 9 months onwards , the baby becomes more mobile . He will soon be creeping, crawling and cruising along the furniture. He will also be able to sit without support. His grasp will also improve and he can hold finger foods and slender toys well. His language skills are also developing and you will find him imitating you too.
He will enjoy the activity mat for practicing his motor skills.
Toys for him at this stage are :
- Shumee Wooden Musical activity walker / Push Walker
My paediatrician suggested to go for a wooden push walker , as it has more friction and weight which makes it safer in comparison to regular plastic push walkers.
- Baybee Little Schumi 3 in1 Push Car with Parental Control and Canopy
This is my twins’ new ride at their Nani’s place . It requires supervision and parental control .
- Lift-the-flap books : Baby’s Box of Fun: A Karen Katz Lift-the-Flap Gift Set: Where Is Baby’s Bellybutton?; Where Is Baby’s Mommy?: Toes, Ears, & Nose!
Lift the flap books are a great way to let your baby practice their fine motor skills.
